Bengt Edenfalk created a charming harbor scene on this handmade Swedish lead crystal vase from Skruf. Pictured is a ship in the distance - it is actually on the opposite side of the glass as a mother holding her child waves goodbye.
The beautiful, heavy, vase measures approximately 7 1/4” x 4 3/4” x 2” and it weighs four pounds. It is signed with the artist's/company's names, numbered and is in very good condition. No scratches, chips or box. The vase is clear, but reflects spots from my blouse when photographed.
This full lead crystal vase was engraved by spinning copper wheels, pressing a slurry of grit that cut into the surface. This a difficult technique to learn, but it's one that allows the engraver to execute varied depths and finishes to reproduce the artist's drawing. The shape of the vase is one of the most readily recognized from Skruf. Edenfalk designed it, and others, with flat surfaces on which decorative motifs could be more easily engraved.
